Copper has been the gold standard for water lines for decades, but it doesn't last forever — and in the South Bay it tends to fail in predictable ways. Pinhole leaks are the classic culprit: tiny perforations that corrode through the pipe wall from the inside out, often on older thin-wall type-M copper, accelerated by hard water, high water pressure, and the simple march of time. You'll see the warning signs before it bursts — a green or blue-white crust of corrosion on the pipe, a stain on a ceiling or wall, or a spot of moisture on a line in the garage or crawl space. Caught early, that's a clean, contained repair rather than a flood.

The repair itself is a craft. We isolate and drain the line, cut out the failed section back to sound copper, clean and flux the pipe and fittings, and sweat in new copper with lead-free solder. A properly soldered copper joint is a permanent, full-strength connection — it's the reason we favor sweating over a push-fit patch on a permanent repair. Push-fit couplings have their place for a fast temporary stop or an awkward access point, and we'll use one when it's genuinely the right call, but for a repair meant to last, a clean soldered joint is the professional standard.

The honest question on any copper leak is whether you're looking at an isolated failure or the first sign of a system-wide problem. One pinhole in an otherwise healthy line is a spot repair, full stop.
