Whole-home carbon filtration is the foundational stage of a complete South Bay water system. It installs at the main supply line after the meter, before any branch tees off to the water heater or interior fixtures, so every drop of water entering the property is treated before it reaches any tap, shower, or appliance. The standard configuration is two-stage: a sediment pre-filter that captures particulates (sand, rust flakes from older galvanized service lines, pipe scale), followed by an activated carbon tank that adsorbs chlorine, chloramines, taste and odor compounds, volatile organic compounds, and the trace pharmaceuticals that increasingly appear in municipal water reports. The system is sized to peak demand in gallons per minute — typically a 1.5 cu ft carbon tank for a 3-bath home, 2.0 cu ft for a 4-bath home, and larger systems for properties with high-flow fixtures or multiple bathrooms running simultaneously.

Every home on the LADWP grid gets the same chlorinated, hard, sediment-prone municipal supply. Carbon filtration changes that at the property line. The most-noticed benefit in San Pedro, Lomita, and Carson households is skin and hair quality — chlorine strips natural oils, dries skin, and accelerates color fade on dyed hair, all of which reverse within a few weeks of carbon filtration on the shower side. The second-most-noticed is taste: kitchen tap water becomes drinkable for most palates without bottled-water replacement, though reverse osmosis is still the right call if you want true bottled-water-grade quality. The third benefit is appliance protection — chlorine accelerates rubber seal degradation in dishwashers and washing machines, and carbon filtration extends the life of those parts measurably.

Installation runs 3–4 hours and requires water shutoff at the main during the cut-in.
