Soil Profile

Predominantly sandy in the lower beach-adjacent neighborhoods, transitioning to compacted sandy loam through the Avenues and the bluff sections. Hollywood Riviera at the south end carries decomposed shale and clay layering similar to Torrance's Riviera. Sandy coastal backfill provides minimal lateral pipe support, which is why we see settling-induced offsets more often here than inland.

Water Hardness

California Water Service supplies most of Redondo with treated imports averaging 8–10 grains-per-gallon — moderately hard. Climate Impact

Cool marine layer mornings nine months of the year, mild winters, but the constant ocean spray within a half-mile of the Strand means metallic components age noticeably faster.
